Week with Mommy

Mommy has been on maternity leave for the last few weeks so she has had plenty of time to hang out with Mr. Pennington. For the last two weeks we have been going to K'tanim at the synagogue and to Baby Story Time at the public library.

This last week at K'tanim Pennington attempted to paint for the second time. It has been roughly two months since the last time Pennington tried painting. From what I understand this time was a bit more successful than the last time. After spreading the paint around with his hands he grabbed the paper and attempted to eat it. That is how he got paint on his face.

Mommy and Pennington have been joining Melissa and Maggie at Baby Story Time. Baby Story Time consists of reading stories, singing songs, and watching a short video. Mommy can't believe how well behaved all the other babies are. They all just sit there so quietly. Pennington is usually the one that can't sit still and needs to be distracted with his pacifier. When Pennington is actually paying attention he seems to be enjoying it. Especially when we sing the songs he knows like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Head Shoulders Knees and Toes".

Baby Luangaphay #2

Yes it is true Baby Luangaphay #2 is on its way. #2 is due on August 23rd which is exactly 12 days after Pennington's first birthday. At first our family was in total shock about this because we had always been told that it was basically impossible for us to ever have a child naturally. Now that we have had about four weeks to let this all sink in we are starting to get really excited about our new addition. We are planning on finding out the sex of the child and should know sometime in mid April. Definitely check back for a posting sometime in mid April to find out the sex of Baby Luangaphay #2.

Playing Dress-up

Daddy is always wanting to dress-up Pennington and take pictures of him. Below are some silly pictures that were taken over the last week.

"Wasn't I a wild thing for Halloween? So why did Daddy put me in my Halloween outfit again? Maybe because I just look so cute in it." - Pennington

"No I wasn't named after him but I sure like the fact that my name is on a football jersey." - Pennington

Rice Cereal

Mommy and Daddy gave in and decided to let Pennington try rice cereal this weekend. We say gave in because most doctors are currently recommending that you wait until the child is 6 months old before they start solid foods. (Note: Pennington is 5 1/2 months old). Pennington's doctor did say that it would be okay to practice eating a little bit of rice cereal before he turned 6 months old because the child needs to practice several times before they get they hang of eating solid foods from a spoon. Now that we have fed a young child for the first time we can definitely agree with that. Pennington didn't seem to like the rice cereal at all. We decided that for the next week or so we will put some rice cereal in one of his bottle feedings so he can get used to the taste. We tried feeding him again today and it went much better. Below are a few pictures of Pennington eating rice cereal for the first time.

What is this?

Daddy's Graduation

On Friday Daddy graduated from the RN program at Apollo College. Part of the graduation included a pinning ceremony. Mommy and Pennington had the honor of "pinning" Daddy. Congratulations Daddy!!!! We are so proud of you. Below are pictures from the graduation.

Would you like a Hug?

Today Pennington and Mommy had a play date with Becca and Avery. This was the first time that the two actually interacted with each other. Both of them tried to grab the others hands and face. They even ended up giving each other a few hugs. Below are a few pictures of Pennington and Avery.

First Runny Nose

Pennington got his very first runny nose a few days ago. He isn't running a fever and it doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. We have started having him sleep with a humidifier on which seems to be helping. We have also been clearing out his nose before naps and bedtime so he can breath better. Good thing Daddy is a nurse because he was able to listen to his lungs to see if there was any fluid in them. Daddy said everything sounds clear. We are going to continue to monitor the situation to see if he needs to go to the doctor. Below are some photos of Pennington that have been taken while he has had a runny nose. As you can see he doesn't even notice he has a runny nose.

K'tanim

On Monday mornings for a few months now Pennington has been going to K'tanim at our Synagogue. K'tanim is for ages 0 - 5 and includes social time for adults and children. Parents, Grandparents and any other caregivers are all welcome. The only pre-requisite is a child. K'tanim includes opening song, activity, snack and story time! Below are pictures of Mommy and Pennington at K'tanim this morning. The activity was eatable Playdoh. Usually eatable Playdoh is made with ingredients that include peanut butter and honey. Peanut butter and honey are two big no-nos for children under the age of one because they can be very allergic to those foods. Good thing they also made Playdoh out of fruit punch, flour, sugar and salt. Note: Pennington hasn't started solid foods yet so I made sure he didn't put any of it in his month. But just in case he did I only let him play with the fruit punch version. Below are pictures from K'tanim.

Five Months Old

Pennington will be five months old tomorrow. Wow does time fly. Over the last month he has become more interactive with everything around him. In small groups he is talking a lot. Specifically motorboat noises and gibberish. He has even started to talk to his toys and stuff animals. In large groups he has become more observant. He looks around at everything and doesn't talk at all. He has started to notice other little kids around him and is very intrigued by them.

Pennington has started to be more on a schedule of taking two naps a day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. The naps range from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Just depends on how tired he is. He still wakes up during the night mainly because he is hungry. Mom and dad are now able to put Pennington down to sleep while he is still awake and he has been able to fall asleep all by himself.

Pennington still loves being read to, taking baths, and going places. He recently found his feet which he loves to hold onto especially when getting his diaper changed. As for his toys, he really likes his fruits and vegetables, wood ring, monkey and woofie.

During the next month or so Pennington is looking forward to starting solid foods and being able to sit up all by himself.

Below are a few pictures for you to enjoy.

Holiday Gifts from the Luangaphays

Below are pictures of Pennington opening gifts from Grandma and Grandpa Luangapahy and Uncle Rockey. Pennington got a ton of new clothes and some sweet new kicks that he should be able to fit into in about nine months.

Trip to the Cabin

I know. I know. I haven't updated the blog in THREE WEEKS. So here is what we have been up to. From December 23rd - 29th our family spent time up at the Groves Family cabin. The trip to the cabin included ski trips for mom and dad and time to visit with family and friends. Melissa, Zac, and Magonila Crist joined us up at the cabin for one night and Brandon Brown and his girlfriend Mary and her two kids Trei and Paytynn also joined us up at the cabin for two nights. Pennington was really excited to be around all the kids. He just kept staring at them. Below are a few pictures from the trip to the cabin.

Pennington hanging out with Magonila ("Maggie") Crist. Maggie is about one year older than Pennington. You can definitely tell by this photo how tall Pennington is for his age. He is only about 4 inches shorter than Maggie. Maggie is short for her age.
