Pennington's First 50 Meter Race

The YMCA puts on an All Comers Race every Thursday night during the summer at Timberline High School.  Last Thursday Pennington ran his first 50 meter race. He was placed in a group of other children that are 3 and younger. Below is a video of Pennington's first race.

All Comers Race

Tonight Pennington and Piper ran in the 50 meter All Comers Race at Timberline. Pennington ran in the 2 and under boys race and got FIRST PLACE. Piper ran in the 2 and under girls race and got SECOND PLACE. Johnny and I were so proud of our two little races. They did so good. Both of them got medals for running the race. Below is a picture of our little kiddos before the race.

Twilight Criterium - 2012

We hoped to take the whole family to the Twilight Criterium but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way. Johnny had a grand ole place to bring the kids bikes so they could ride around. Well Piper for some reason decided not to nap while at Grandmas and totally fell apart when we got down to the race. So I ended up having to take her home. Below is a picture of Pennington at the race. Poor kid had to come home early because Johnny needed to get home to be with Piper so I could go out for a night with the girls. Oh the joys of having children. They never seem to do what you hope for. Next year we are planning on having the kids ride in the kid race.

4th of July 2012

For the 4th I took the kids to the Liberty Day Parade in downtown Boise. I was surprised by how long the parade was. I think it was at least 45 minutes long which surprised me. The had a great time watching the cars drive by and collecting candy from people in the parade.

After the parade we had a pool party/BBQ with some family and long time friends at our house. The kids are becoming quite the little swimmers. Pennington can drive down for rings in the pool. He is practicing kicking and swimming out to someone in the pool that is 5 to 10 feet away. Once he gets his breathing down we will have a really swimmer on our hands. Piper is practicing as well but isn't quite as confident as Pennington. The good news is that the kids really enjoy swimming and are getting increasingly better every time we put them in the pool. The bad news is that they don't like to wear the life jackets even for a few minutes just to give Mom and Dad a break.

After swimming and dinner we stopped by a few friends houses to say hi before the annual fireworks party in the cul-de-sac. The fireworks in the cul-de-sac were a huge hit. Both Pennington and Piper did sparklers. After every fireworks display Pennington would give everyone high fives. The evening ended around 10:15 which is super late for the kids. They went to sleep right away.  Below are some pictures from 4th of July.

As a continuation of the July 4th festivities, Johnny and I spent the rest of the holiday weekend together. Johnny and I had our 5th year anniversary on June 24. To celebrate we decided to have a few days away from the kids. We drove to Wallowa Lake in Oregon and camped out for one night and then headed up to Seattle to see some friends and go to a Sounders game. It was a great little 4 day getaway that was definitely needed. Thank you Nonni and Grandma for watching the kids while we were gone.

Sandy Point

This evening the family went to Sandy Point to cool off since it is over 100 degrees outside today. Pennington has been asking to go to the "beach" and this is about as good as it gets for an inland beach that is only 10 minutes from our house. The kids had a blast playing in the sand. We built sand castles, panned for rocks, and walked in the water. I think the kids enjoyed it enough that we will be going again sometime for sure.

It sounds like the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation is doing a new program next year where parking at all Idaho State Parks is only $10 for the whole year. That includes camping sites, boat parking, ect. I think we will be purchasing that parking pass for sure. Below are a few pictures from our trip to Sandy Point.

Boise Hawks Game

A few weeks ago the family went to the opening day game for the Boise Hawks. An old high school friend of ours had free tickets so we jumped all over that. As you can expect Pennington LOVED it. Piper enjoyed it as well. Pennington was really excited to say hi to Humphrey. In fact he just ran towards him. There is no fear of mascots in this boy. Pennington also played baseball with some of the other kids. He jumped right in there (cutting in line several times) to bat and play catcher. Below are some pictures from the game.
